Non-surgical Resurfacing

When we think of resurfacing, we usually think of chemical peel, dermabrasion or laser. These are all aggressive resurfacing procedures which are done under local anesthesia without or without sedation, and often require an 8 to 12 day recovery period.

We recommend a variety of topical drugs which can accomplish a milder resurfacing over a longer period of time for patients who either have milder problems or who do not want the down time.

Glycolic acid, when combined with hydroquinones and tretinoin (Retin-A) are the active ingredients that can accomplish considerable improvement in a non-surgical setting. At times, we add microdermabrasion to speed up the process and allow for more rapid penetration of the drugs. This too is considered non-surgical in that it can be done as an office procedure with no down time.

The before and after photographs below show such a patient who utilized the Obagi Nu-Derm Advanced Skincare System for patchy hyperpigmentation, melasma and acne, with the expected remarkable results.
