Currently, breast implants are placed either above or below the pectoralis major chest muscle using either saline or silicone gel implants.

We prefer a breast fold incision and use either saline or silicone gel breast implants below the muscle for women who have normal appearing small breasts. For more complicated problems such as small breasts with breast hang, or constricted breast deformities, we favor an above the muscle approach using silicone gel breast implants which give a very natural feel to the breasts.

Pain control using indwelling catheters allows patients to instill local anesthesia at home. These devices are used in all augmentation mammaplasty patients and are highly effective. Please refer to our resource articles on "Pain Control: 600+ patients".

Breast augmentation can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence. The best candidates for breast augmentation are women who are looking for improvement, not perfection, in the way they look. If you're physically healthy and realistic in your expectations, you may be a good candidate.

Common Concerns

If a patient has any concerns about their surgery, the consultation is a good time to discuss this. Some of the more common concerns include: return to activities, the anesthetic, dying, safety of the implant, achieving the desired result, hardening of the implants and pain. When a patient has a friend who may have had considerable pain after their surgery, this naturally would have an impact on their willingness to "suffer" through the procedure.
