Home : Cosmetic Plastic Surgery : Breast Augmentation #2 : My Experience with Breast Enlargement

By Peter T. Pacik, MD, FACS

We, at the Plastic Surgery Professional Association, have a long experience with breast enlargement surgery and feel that we can offer our combined experience and wisdom to help patients make the right choices and to provide excellent surgery and postoperative care.

I have been performing breast enlargement surgery since 1970, and as of 2008 have operated on about 2000 patients. Our patients are followed closely after their surgery, both to support their needs and for us as an ongoing learning experience of what works and what doesn’t. To encourage patients to return for their postoperative checkups, there is no charge for postop visits. After many years, I feel that I am still a student, and I continue to learn from my patients. We refer to the “practice of medicine” because we constantly strive to improve our results. We are very aware of safety issues and adhere to the Hippocratic oath “above all do no harm.”

I have published a number of papers and presented both regionally to the New England Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and nationally to the American Society of Plastic Surgery in the field of augmentation mammaplasty. We have had the pleasure of having plastic surgeons from a variety of countries visit with us. There is always an excellent exchange of information from these visits. We also respond to letters from the international community, answering questions about difficult problems.

We have been working on postoperative pain control in augmentation mammaplasty using indwelling catheters since 1996, and as of December 2008, have over 750 consecutive patients using this technique. To my knowledge, having reviewed many other publications, I believe this is the largest series in the world, and we have been honored by the considerable interest this has generated. I have also published on improved techniques to lower the breast fold. This is one of the more challenging aspects of augmentation mammaplasty. (Click here to see Dr. Pacik's Publications.)

Dr. Daniel A. Sterling joined our practice in 2005, and brings with him the experience gained from working with 13 plastic surgeons in New York. We operate together on many of our patients, and collaborate on difficult problems.

Our medical staff is very knowledgeable because they are directly involved in the consultations done with the doctor. There continues to be great benefit to our patients when they are seen by a member of our medical staff for a pre-consultation interview and sizing. This is very helpful in setting the stage for the consultation with the doctor. There is no fee for this visit.

Because of the special interest that we have in augmentation mammaplasty, the entire staff is geared towards this type of surgery. We expect that your visit with us will be worthwhile in achieving your own goals.

We look forward to meeting with you.
