Failed Botox treatments for vaginismus

Botox for Vaginismus
We are beginning to see too many patients who have had Botox injections for vaginismus without anesthesia, or the proper support after treatment, who wind up failing treatment. This is very unfortunate and adds to the string of failures the vaginismus patient has already experienced.
It is important to respect the entire program which consists of injecting intravaginal Botox into the spastic muscles while the patient is under anesthesia and using this time to do a complete vaginal examination as well as using the anesthesia to do progressive dilation to the largest dilator. Further, the program includes post procedure counseling to educate the patient in transitioning from dilators to intercourse, setting the stage for involvement of the partner, discussing relationship issues and helping to improve libido for both partners which is often compromised as a result of long term difficulties with inability to have intercourse. Our success rate continues to be in excess of 90% because the entire program is used for the three days the patients is in our clinic. More about the proper use of injecting Botox to treat vaginismus can be found on my web site:

Case History of Vaginismus Treated with Botox
Posted by: Peter T. Pacik, MD, FACS
Background
A 27 year old woman with a six year history of Lamont Level 5 primary vaginismus (most severe form of vaginismus) was sexually molested at age five and struggled through years of being unable achieve intercourse despite psychotherapy and attempted dilator therapy. Her male friends left her. "This would become a cycle of pretty much all of my relationships and because I couldn't have sex I let these men belittle me, cheat on me, and even beat me. I felt like those were the only men that I could get because I couldn't have sex.”
Botox Treatment for Vaginismus
She was treated using intravaginal Botox injections and dilation under anesthesia. She was able to achieve intercourse for the first time 15 days later. Her case history can be read by clicking here.
